Weather in Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki weather is a Mediterranean climate and you can clearly distinct all four seasons! Although Thessaloniki is a beautiful city to visit all year around, the period from March up to end of October is the best period to visit Thessaloniki and the extended area of Northern Greece!
In comparison with other known areas in Greece like Athens or the islands, Thessaloniki faces more temperature extremes and of course winter in Thessaloniki can be much colder. Snow is not that common in Thessaloniki, although surrounding mountains get some during the winter. but. Usually winter temperature varies from 5 to 7 ºC, but it might as well drop around 0 ºC.
Thessaloniki is not a place that usually rains as most rainfalls are from November to December.
Spring and autumn are very pleasant seasons as the weather is very mild and the temperature varies from 9 ºC before picking up to 18 ºC. The only difference is that of course in autumn you may face some rains as we are getting closer to winter. An umbrella can always turn up handy!
During summer the temperature is around 23 ºC to 25 ºC, though temperatures over 30 ºC and over are not uncommon! Please make sure that you have with you at all times sun cream, sun glasses and light clothing!
